or...Recycled Artwork on display at Solfest
Artist Moray Cameron is creating an installation at Solfest, for Riversmeet, made from 6 pint milk cartons, aluminium cans and plastic bottles. Go along and have a look.
The idea of the project was to create a view of a memory Since the project is of a green nature a tree in a forgotten field was chosen as the image.
Each milk carton portrays a segment, capsule of the memory. This is achieved by inserting a segment (image printed onto acetate) of a larger picture into each carton. All cartons have an image placed inside and each carton is aligned to make a wall of cartons revealing the larger picture. It took some time to decide on the final design of each carton (incorporate maximum projection of image on the acetate) and how it would be attached to its neighbour (strips of aluminium cans folded to make hinges which would then attach each carton togetther by cutting slits in each carton).
Lighting to project the image in each carton was achieved by the use of string lighting (as you would find on a christmas tree but brighter). 1 to 2 of each of the LED s of the strings lights was placed in each carton and held in place by the use of a cut up plastic bottle to create a holding device at the mouth of each carton.
The lighting is 12V so a 12V battery and a solar battery charger are used for all power consumption (the solar panel trickle charges the battery as the battery powers the lights).
