or...FUTURE COCKERMOUTH
Submitted by Rick Cross on 22nd May 2008

The built environment and land around our town is under increasing pressures. Some people want more access for cars and bigger car parks, others want safe space for children to play, and affordable housing. We need workshops and offices space for new businesses and more people want space to grow their own food. With all these conflicting interests and growing demands, we need a new approach that allows a more open dialogue and allows people in our community to be more involved in more meaningful ways in balancing these needs.
If we in the community were more engaged it might result in better decisions, less conflict and a shared responsibility for the future of our town.

footbridge over river derwent and use of confluence lands
Gill Greenhalgh
Hello, recently there have been two articles in the Times and Star newspaper which have been positively received so far by many members of the public. It seems to have caught the mood of the town and is clearly part of riversmeet rationale about involving and energising the public. I am now starting to put together activity packs relating to raising awareness of the environmenal and asthetic concerns. I am hopeful that the Cockermouth Schools when approached with the packs will use them and the results could be displayed. Similaly I am wanting to develop resources for use with adult groups and individuals. I would like some of this to be arts and visual displays. I have some ideas but would welcome more pairs of hands and thoughts. Does this appeal to you? would you like to be part of the project? what can you offer?
