or...Balsam bash interpretation boards
Submitted by johnh on 15th July 2010
A couple of us had a chat yesterday at the balsam bash about whether interpretation boards re the hows and whys of getting rid of the stuff might be a good idea.
They could be near the Gote Road bridge and/or somewhere in the memorial gardens? It might save a few puzzled looks from onlookers, and encourage a bit of picking of the stuff from passers-by. We had to explain to a few people what we were upto yesterday, maybe carrrying a few leaflets would help too. Any thoughts?

balsam bash interpretation board
I could help with this - interpretation boards are what I do in my "day job". Give me a shout when you're meeting up and I'm happy to come along and help if you need it - but if you've got it covered I won't be offended!

Yes I'm sure there's similar
Yes I'm sure there's similar notices/text already done we can adapt, I think the main issue would be gaining permission to place the notices. I'm willing to get in touch with the town council but maybe someone already has a contact there? I'm away this weekend so I can't come to the balsam bash, but I'll see you at something soon. Cheers, John
balsam
Seems like a good idea to me. I've only recently come round to the idea myself, of removing the balsam. Seemed like a perfectly harmless plant that the bees loved. Until I got some information. So I'm sure there's a lot of people around who know very little about it. I'd prefer to be seen as being active in conservation rather than as a vandal :o)

Sounds good to me too,
I have some info from EA / Conservation group, perhaps we can chat next time we're both out on a bash and you could put something together to use. I'll bring a camera to take pics !! W
